secondNATUREstudios is a space for those who love to give but have little time/money for themselves. We are a collection of good spirits who work or volunteer in the non-profit sector who wishes to continue to give back to other dreamers, professionals, and community members through pro-bono supplemental support. Helping others and having fun goes hand-in-hand; it's almost second nature to us!
SARUN S. CHAN
Sarun Chan is a Cambodian American community member and advocate from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. He was born in a refugee camp in Thailand during the aftermath of the Cambodian genocide led by Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge regime. Raised in low-income neighborhoods throughout South Philadelphia, Sarun has an innate reflective nature on the American, Immigrant, and Refugee Experiences. From witnessing, experiencing, and living his life in poverty stricken neighborhoods, it has inspired him to further his life’s work to help bring visibility to the under-represented and bridge resource gaps to improve the quality of life for the under-served.
Through personal and professional cultivation, Sarun continues to make an impact through program development, direct services, and advocacy on various social issues and disparities in education, health, community development, and environmental conservation. He currently works with an alliance of 23 different environmental conservation organizations from three states (Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware) where he oversees personal and professional environmental career exploration for adults. He promotes conversation and action towards diversity, equity, and inclusion within the context environmental conservation field and beyond. Sarun has worked directly with Southeast Asian immigrant & refugee communities and advocated for the disaggregation of data collection nationally through his work with various local non-profit organizations. He has worked with African-American and Latino communities in Southwest, West, and Northeast Philadelphia through truancy and truancy prevention services in over 34 Philadelphia public schools. During this time, he outreached and educated hundreds of families and school staff on truancy and court process.
Sarun helped create and execute successful inter-generational and multicultural projects including The Legacy Project, Teens Organizing Proactivity, Miss & Mister Asian Teen Philly, and Bridging the Dream: Bringing together American, Immigrant, and Refugee Community Members.
Serving diverse communities have enriched Sarun's spirit as an individual and he continues to grow and translate these experiences to better make an impact on the under-served and under-represented.
